A night out at the Beausejour Community Hall just got a little
safer.
Wally Zillman and Chuck Trefry presented an automated external
defibrillator (AED) on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion to
the Beausejour Community Hall on Friday. Donations from the
Poppy Fund were used to purchase the device, worth approximately
$2,000.
An AED is relatively user-friendly and can effectively treat
life-threatening heart malfunctions like cardiac arrhythmias and
cardiac arrest. It works by delivering a therapeutic dose of
electrical energy to the heart, which can reestablish the
heart's natural rhythm and save a person's life.
When asked where the idea for purchasing the device came from,
Tefrey joked, "Well, I took a look at Wally and got worried."
"But seriously," he said, "the purpose of the Legion is not just
for supporting veterans anymore; it's to do things for the
community. Club 50 uses that hall and they're all old suckers.
At the Old Time Dance – people get dancing and all worked up;
it's a good place where it may be needed."

THEY SHALL GROW NOT OLD AS
WE
THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD;
AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM NOR
THE YEARS CONDEMN.
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN
AND IN THE MORNING,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
